Notice of State required lead pipe inventory
The City of Bay City has been performing a State required lead service line inventory over the past year, which consists of identifying the pipe material on each side of the water meter. The City found no evidence that lead service lines exist in the 836 residential meters within Bay City.
The method to determine that there are no lead service lines in the system was a combination of looking at the age of the house (knowing that lead service lines were not available after 1985), along with the City replacing water meters and recording the pipe material type at that time. In Addition, the City excavated and inspected the water piping near the meters in certain areas/properties.
